Today we took the incredibly stunning drive to Hana. The road to Hana is rated one of the best drives in the world, and it’s obvious why. It’s a crazy drive with over 40 one way bridges, extremely narrow roads, with switchbacks like i’ve never seen before. We ended up doing a 2km hike through the rainforest to a spectacular bamboo forest.

Xamen-Ha Bird Sanctuary
December 17, 2009Today I visited the Xamen-Ha bird sanctuary. It was alright. I left frustrated and angry at the birds. I definitely learned that I don’t enjoy bird photography one bit. Im a pretty patient kinda guy, but birds require more patience that I have. To much sitting and waiting, and birds don’t like to sit still for very long – unless they are in the worst spot possible for me to take a shot then they can sit there all day. They can also move far to quickly from one place to another making me look like a fool chasing them around the jungle.
Anyways – here are the few photos that I got. I had a few stiff drinks when I got back to the resort.
Also, whats with those certain older men in their 50’s or 60’s who sit around the pool bar with their friends hovering and hanging around and says to the bartender, “Hey, whats the FINEST tequila ya got?”, the bartender responds with “Jose Cuervo, it’s the best there is!”, the orangey tanned man then says, “That’s what I wan’t! Only the finest for my friends! Give me 5 shots! Here’s 5 pesos.”. Dude, you’re not impressing anyone – it’s an all-inclusive resort! And way to tip the bartender 50 cents.
Anyways…back to the photos!

Mexico – the city of Playa del Carmen
December 16, 2009Playa del Carmen is a growing and booming city in Mexico. It has developed into tourist hotspot with fancy stores and chain restaurants. It’s basically Quintana Roos Banff. But just like Banff, if you venture off into the unbeaten path you can find what you went there for – which is what I did in Playa del Carmen. It’s a very relaxed city, full of color and friendly locals. I found it very apparent the unwelcomed spotlight that Playa del Carmen has become among those who live there – probably the same way those in Banff feel.
Here are a few shots from my afternoon spent in this city.
Cerveza por favor!

My amigo here was so thrilled with me taking his portrait with his bike he invited me to his birthday party tomorrow night at a place called Coco Bongo.
Somehow I agreed to bring the birthday cake.
