Casual saturdays

July 12, 2009

I felt naked today. It was a photoless Saturday, and quite frankly it was weird. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not complaining at all, but I felt naked not having any photo jobs lined up. Also, Lindsey was away (and still is!) stagetting today and I was left to fend for myself and keep myself occupied. I wasn’t even left with a list of things to do (am I being tested?)! I’m sure there must be wedding planning things that needed to be done, but I don’t know what they are (again, am I being tested?). I completed a few items on my personal list of things to do, but I basically took the day easy as I know a day like this might not happen again until next year.

Once the evening rolled around I developed a burning urge to press the shutter button. I leashed up Feli, she grabbed her bumble bee, and we set off on a photo safari. I took a total of four photos, and, I wont lie, I deleted two of them. Apparently, I can’t seem to focus on taking photos while ensuring the dog doesn’t get hit by a car or take off chasing some birds (what the hell is with Feli and chasing birds anyway? she’ll never catch one! her “im gonna get you” bark isn’t exactly all that stealthly). After tossing the bumble bee around for a while, I managed to grab three shots of Feli laying down, and then another one walking back home while she carried her chewable and squeaky kill between her jaws.

It’s 11pm right now and i’m just hanging out on the balcony, blogging, drinking tall glass of grape juice, and Feli is asleep on the chair to my left. I’m going to stay here for a bit and observe the other condo tenants as they drunkingly climb out of their cabs after they arrive home from Club Malibu and break up with their girlfriend/boyfriend for the third time this week beneath the lamp next to the Edmonton Journal box.

Feli is asleep right here, twitching and growling in her dreams. It’s to adorable for me to not post a photo. For you photographers, I shot this at ISO 12,800 on the 5D Mark II in pretty much complete darkness other than the glow from my laptop and lights from the street. Amazing.

Here’s to more casual Saturdays. I can’t wait for the next. Thank you for stopping by and goodnight.

Erik – lovely shots of your dog! And I am truly amazed at the last one shot at iso 12,500…i seriously want that camera. i’ve got the 5D but it sure looks like the 5d mark II is a great upgrade when it comes to dealing with low light.

Hey Rachel! Ya the 5D Mark II is really nice, but the 5D is nice too and is still ahead of its time! ISO 12,800 isn’t always that usable as the noise can be very bad, but ISO 6400 is very usable. If you’re ever wanting to upgrade let me know and you can play around with one of mine.
