Hello! It was a crazy filled weekend of photo taking! I won’t be blogging any photos from Saturday until I even begin editing them. I have so much work from wedding related editing to do first. However, I am going to blog todays engagement shoot, as they are quite a bit quicker to edit and sort through. Today I shot Krista and Dales engagement photos, and their wedding is next weekend! They actually weren’t going to have engagement photos but they changed their mind when they saw the engagement photos of their friends Sheri and Michael, whose wedding I will be shooting in February. Krista and Dale were an fantasitc love-duo to photograph! Enjoy the photo’s below.
I get asked every now and then, “how come it can take so long to see my wedding photos? Isn’t it a matter of just throwing the images on a disc the next day and giving them to us?”. This would be nice wouldn’t it? Even back in the days of film, you would drop off all the rolls of film from a wedding. And even though the photography didn’t do any editing to them (yet), it can still take a long time because the labs staff color corrects and adjusts each photo individually. Now, keep in mind they have STAFF to do this. Then you have to account for even more time to do an heavier editing afterwards if needed. I shoot digital, so therefore, the images end up on my computer for me to do all the color corrections, and other tweaks. I don’t have staff to do this. If I did, my prices would be even higher! After all the color corrections and tweaks, the job is SO not over. Unlike a lot of other photographers, I full edit EVERY photo I am going to deliver. This means, any artistic changes, black and white conversions (not as easy to do as you think…at least properly), facial retouching for the portraits. It’s an insane amount of work and can be mind numbingly boring at times. But this is a premium I like to give to my clients – I don’t want to deliver unfinished photos. You see a shot a certain way before you take it, and in it’s digial raw format it is not a finished photograph.
That’s all!

Erik, great photos. You got some excellent captures here. I love the emotion and colors you got in these. I’m sure the couple will just love them all!
Hey I was going through the blog roll from [b] school and stumbled here. Great to see so many Canadians throughout the site, I was worried we’d be a little out numbered!! Love the photos, the fifth one has a great grainy feel that I love.
Erik,
LOVE the colors in the leaves…. I just love your shots!
